MANEESH K. GOYAL
Goyal’s entrepreneurial journey started 14 years ago when he realized he was stuck in an industry he didn’t enjoy, doing work that didn’t fulfill him. With the realization that it was either: make a serious change soon, or stay in that rut for a long, long time, the choice was clear. He took some smart risks and dove into an industry he knew very little about aside from that it compelled him.
In 2003, Goyal founded MKG, an award-winning experiential marketing agency with offices in New York and Los Angeles. The independently-owned agency creates unique and memorable experiences for many of the world’s top brands, while staying firmly committed to creating a one-of-a-kind office culture. Recent accolades include being named to the Crain’s New York “50 Fastest Growing Companies” list in 2013 and 2014, as well as numerous Best Places to Work lists. Over the last three years, Goyal has spun two additional companies out of MKG — Pink Sparrow, a Brooklyn-based scenic fabrication shop and 214, a boutique branding & graphic design agency.
With a desire to help his own employees, and people around the world, experience the same fulfillment that he found, Goyal founded Live in the Grey (LITG), in January 2013, as a movement that challenges the work/life divide and encourages the blend of personal passions with professional pursuits. Since then, Live in the Grey has built a highly-engaged community through live events and online content. Now, with a focus on applying a unique perspective to company culture, Live in the Grey seeks to make an impact on the ‘future of work’ through innovative digital tools and in-person consulting that increases employee fulfillment.
In November 2014, Goyal was appointed by President Barack Obama as a member of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of NYC & Company, the official tourism organization of NYC. Goyal is also an active angel investor in New York City.
Goyal holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University & a Master’s in Public Health from Yale University. He lives with his husband, Andrew, in New York City & Atlanta.
David Garlick is the COO of Pineapple Co.
The long-time business partner of Maneesh K. Goyal, Garlick began full-time with MKG in 2007, serving as the agency’s COO until the launch of Pineapple Co. As COO of MKG, Garlick oversaw day-to-day business and financial operations during a period when MKG was twice named to Crain’s “50 Fastest Growing Companies in NYC” list. Garlick also helped lead the charge as MKG spun off its scenic shop and branding capabilities, ultimately creating MKG sister companies Pink Sparrow and 214.
After graduating from Yale University, Garlick began his career in investment consulting, working as an analyst for global consulting firms Mercer and Watson Wyatt in Chicago and San Francisco respectively. Thinking he may want to transition to the public sector, Garlick then moved to New York, where he got his Masters in Public Administration at NYU. It is during this time that Garlick first connected with MKG, working with Maneesh Goyal in a freelance capacity while MKG was still a one-man shop. After graduating from NYU, and before joining MKG in a full-time capacity, Garlick worked for the City of New York under the Bloomberg administration, serving as the Press Secretary for the Department of Small Business Services.
Garlick is a board member of Experience Camps, a non-profit offering one-week camps for boys and girls who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. He lives with his wife, Elissa, and daughter, Senna, in Brooklyn, NY.
